SIL Sustainability: ESG pillars

Sustainability return

SUSTAINABILITY AS A PILLAR OF THE FUTURE

With 50 years of history and productive excellence recognized by the market, SIL, a leader in the manufacturing of low-voltage electrical conductors, reaffirms its commitment to the future daily by integrating sustainable practices into all areas of its manufacturing operations.

Recognized for innovation, high technology, and quality, the company stands out for its pioneering role in implementing processes aimed at minimizing environmental impact throughout its entire chain. Among them is the incorporation of renewable energy, sourced exclusively from clean sources, ensuring a sustainable operation and contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.

In a scenario where everyone must take on their social and environmental responsibility, SIL positions itself as a benchmark not only for its products but also for its efficient and responsible manufacturing.

SIL has always been ahead when it comes to sustainability, and our commitment goes beyond the materials used in installations. We understand that everything is interconnected—being a sustainable company is not only about internal practices in continuous improvement, but a methodology that begins with the selection of certified raw materials, continues through our manufacturing practices, and extends to the point of sale. Each of these stages adds value to our solutions.

Sustainability is one of SIL’s main pillars, used as a means to achieve efficiency in the manufacturing of low-voltage wires and cables. Its operations align with the climate agenda, aiming to minimize damage to the planet. The company integrates green technology, clean energy, and circular economy for the sustainable growth of its production.

CLEAN ENERGY

One of the key initiatives in SIL’s sustainability report is the exclusive use of clean energy at its industrial plant located in Guarulhos, in the greater São Paulo area. Through the free energy market, the company ensures that 100% of the electricity consumed comes from clean sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric plants.

This initiative, already consolidated for several years, strengthens our environmental goals by choosing renewable energy sources that do not rely on or encourage the use of fossil fuels, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

This commitment adds competitive advantages, as the construction market is gradually seeking suppliers that promote initiatives to curb greenhouse gas emissions. From a financial perspective, the free energy market may not seem the most viable option for supply, yet we remain committed because of our environmental responsibility—which the market positively recognizes.

TECHNOLOGY AND PRODUCTIVE EFFICIENCY

Another factor contributing to SIL’s sustainable efficiency is its continuous investment in cutting-edge technology. With a manufacturing park of over 30,000 m² equipped with modern and highly efficient machinery, the structure is periodically updated and adjusted to meet market demands. Embedded in a context of advanced engineering, SIL’s strategy is to ensure high productivity while reducing environmental impacts.

Recently, the company replaced 50% of its traditional forklift fleet with electric models that, besides being quieter and quick to charge, limit carbon emissions and reduce maintenance costs. The company’s goal is to fully replace the fleet in the near future. "Our criteria are always based on energy and environmental efficiency, and our manufacturing park evolves in line with the need to make production increasingly cleaner and more efficient," says SIL’s quality and environmental manager. This is complemented by 100% LED lighting—cost-effective, durable, and efficient.

Through constant investments in the continuous upgrade of its industrial facilities, SIL is able to expand its production capacity with performance and quality. The key lies in maintaining modern production lines capable of keeping pace with market growth, ensuring the sustainability and evolution of the business.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND MATERIAL REUSE

At SIL, sustainable foundations go far beyond product development and manufacturing processes. The company also adopts a strict circular economy policy, encouraging the reuse of material waste such as copper—the main raw material for wires and cables—and plastic compounds that are fully recyclable and can be used in various applications with our partners.

SIL also runs a wood reuse project for the production of pallets used in the transportation of its products. This initiative reduces carbon emissions related to the acquisition of new materials.

CARBON FOOTPRINT AND CERTIFICATIONS

SIL holds certifications that validate its sustainable practices. In 2024, the company received the ISO 14001 certification, an international standard that sets criteria for an effective environmental management system. This adds to its environmental management plan, which ensures legal compliance at municipal, state, and federal levels. Achieving ISO 14001 certification reinforces customer, partner, and consumer confidence.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT INNOVATION

However, SIL’s efforts toward sustainability are not limited to production. Through the innovation that drives its product development team, in 2024 it achieved an unprecedented milestone in the national industry: it became the first company to design and produce a cable with an outer PVC jacket made from sugarcane—with the same performance and durability as traditional materials.

Developed using next-generation insulating compounds, the AtoxSil Eco 750 Flexible Cable uses green polyethylene and represents a significant advancement in the search for environmentally responsible solutions in the electrical products industry, as it is 100% recyclable after disposal and suitable for new applications. Green polyethylene is a sustainable alternative to conventional materials, without compromising cable quality or safety.
